The goal of the accreditation process is to have schools engage in a continuous improvement discipline.
Modern accreditation is an activity, not a status. Schools are accredited today because of the way they move, not the way they stand. Catholic schools in the Diocese of Erie are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The activities of the accreditation protocol of Middle States concentrate on what schools are doing, not on what they have done.
Evaluation examines the total school: its philosophy and goals, the interpersonal relationships of all members of the school community, the academic program, the physical plant and its financial stability. Evaluation studies the school in a systemic way; it organizes and integrates the areas which demand attention separately.
Following its self-study, the school is visited by the evaluation team which makes recommendations for improvement. These recommendations are then incorporated into an action plan that is revisited three times during the next 10 years.
